COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES
❖ Developed, organized, and supervised the Louisiana Freedom Festival from 1986-2005 (19 years). The Freedom Festival was an annual three or four day community-wide festival event for Terrebonne Parish and Louisiana held to celebrate the 4th of July in commemoration of United States independence. This project included overseeing, organizing, and coordinating all volunteers who prepared for and worked during the event, which featured three separate performance stages, concerts, choirs, drama, guest speakers, carnival rides, food booths, children’s events and games, cultural activities, with scheduled free participation for orphans and needy families, and culminating with the annual city-wide 4th of July fireworks spectacular. At its height, over 40,000 people were in attendance at the festival.
❖ Organized and supervised yearly ceremonies from 1986 – 2005 (19 years) to honour our military veterans and to salute our troops for the service and sacrifice made to our nation in the maintaining of our freedom. These ceremonies were conducted simultaneously with and during the Louisiana Freedom Festival Independence Celebration. From 1991- 1993, special patriotic parades were also organized and conducted together with military and government participation. These parades honoured and supported our veterans and troops who helped to liberate Kuwait during the Persian Gulf War (1990 – 1991) as part of the military coalition with other nations conducted under United Nations authorization.
❖ Community service projects to disadvantaged children and families living in public housing, including organizing art classes, puppetry programs, food and clothing programs, and self esteem building programs
❖ Organized disaster relief for storm victims in local communities damaged by hurricanes ❖ Organized and led numerous missionary outreach teams and youth leadership teams to foreign countries, in conjunction with various organizations, including trips to Communist Romania, Haiti, Mexico, Jamaica, Bangladesh and France
